Almost done! just a few more tweaks…. I’m excited about this one, it’s a tiny one! 6”x12” oil on canvas
Edit:
It looks like a landscape- completely unintentional! I have been working on it vertically
My work at the Beverly Art Center for the 5 Evolving Artists Competition.
Not the best photo and I forgot who the artists next to me is.
Really excited four of my paintings got accepted as part of the Evolving Artists Competition, at the Beverly Art Center! I honestly didn’t think four of them were going to be accepted, I thought if I got in one wold make it. My website has been updated with the information, but of course once I get the flyer I will post the photo and the opening reception is near an email will be sent.
As always a huge thanks, to those who have been supportive it’s truly appreciated.
Yellow #5, oil on canvas, 2012

Decided the painting is finished, I’ve included a detail shot this time- left corner. Probably my favorite section of the painting.

New painting in progress- it is very few times, that I work with mostly yellow. I struggle with the color a lot. I was reaching a point, where I was going to give up. I wanted this to be yellow with some soft greens, but it just didn’t work.
Then my sometimes rusty light bulb went off- I was reading The Atlantic when I stumbled on a photo of the sky in Colorado during the forest fires, it’s gorgeous. A lot of yellows and oranges This gave me the idea that perhaps, keeping it simple with different yellows will work. I mean, the last painting has 5 reds. So, why not?
I am sharing the photo to show the process, to me the journey is what matters most. My work relies heavily on intuition, so I have to be prepared for failure and it may take long to finish a painting. Sometimes, I admit- the failure part can be hard (the failure part- ex: white painting). But it is a learning experience, I know what works, what doesn’t and what areas need work. This photo also shows that sometimes what doesn’t work, can be a good thing. You can’t see it much, but the green I was trying to add left some very nice subtleties behind. This is what I like about those mistakes- now I have to learn to stop over working my paintings!

Both paintings are 8”x48”, oil on canvas
Statement:
My aunt left long ago when I was a child leaving me with pleasant memories of her that are sparked by the memento I have: her bracelet. The blue stone reminds me of her- serene, happy, and beautiful. This painting centers on this feeling and the spiritual connection I have with her. Through meditation and prayer I was able to connect with my aunt; I believe her spirit guided me as I created this memorial to her.
