New painting in progress- it is very few times, that I work with mostly yellow. I struggle with the color a lot. I was reaching a point, where I was going to give up. I wanted this to be yellow with some soft greens, but it just didn’t work.
Then my sometimes rusty light bulb went off- I was reading The Atlantic when I stumbled on a photo of the sky in Colorado during the forest fires, it’s gorgeous. A lot of yellows and oranges This gave me the idea that perhaps, keeping it simple with different yellows will work. I mean, the last painting has 5 reds. So, why not?
I am sharing the photo to show the process, to me the journey is what matters most. My work relies heavily on intuition, so I have to be prepared for failure and it may take long to finish a painting. Sometimes, I admit- the failure part can be hard (the failure part- ex: white painting). But it is a learning experience, I know what works, what doesn’t and what areas need work. This photo also shows that sometimes what doesn’t work, can be a good thing. You can’t see it much, but the green I was trying to add left some very nice subtleties behind. This is what I like about those mistakes- now I have to learn to stop over working my paintings!
