I am trying to work on a mostly yellow painting, and I am having trouble.
To quote my brother- ”that shit dead” :\
Day of the dead: La Vida Sin Fin, National Museum of Mexican Art. 2008
Both paintings are 8”x48”, oil on canvas
Statement:
My aunt left long ago when I was a child leaving me with pleasant memories of her that are sparked by the memento I have: her bracelet. The blue stone reminds me of her- serene, happy, and beautiful. This painting centers on this feeling and the spiritual connection I have with her. Through meditation and prayer I was able to connect with my aunt; I believe her spirit guided me as I created this memorial to her.
In memory of Maria Virginia Terrazas
I was always scared of using it because a college instructors often times would say it looked pasty. When I was working on my painting for Day of the Dead exhibition I had to use a bit of white- the painting is based on a turquoise bracelet that belonged to my aunt. (Blue#2, if you care to see it) At this time, I was still blending my colors seamlessly so it is subtle.
Lately, I have been using white in my paintings more often. Specifically, transparent white- it’s becoming an indispensable color in my palette and all my recent paintings have white in them. Some more subtle than others. I’m still experimenting with it, and the process has been fun.
Every single time I paint, I end up with paint on the most random parts of my body. Today, I had a spot of alizarin crimson next to my mouth. It looked like smudged lipstick!
